Weather Cancellations & Heat Alerts

Weather Cancellations

During the winter months, inclement weather and/or poor road conditions may cause the disruption of bus transportation and regular school operations. If buses are cancelled in a certain zone/region, schools will remain open to staff and students.

For student transportation purposes, schools located in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon (Peel Region), which are served by Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR), are divided into three transportation zones, ZONE 1, ZONE 2 and ZONE 3. Please refer to the Weather Zones Map and School List to find which zone your school is located within.

For student transportation purposes, DPCDSB's three schools located in Dufferin County (Orangeville), St. Andrew, St. Benedict, St. Peter Catholic Elementary Schools, are served by Service de Transport de Wellington- Dufferin Student Transportation Service (STWDSTS). Although Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School is located in Peel Region, a significant segment of the school’s student population is transported from Dufferin
County by STWDSTS (see below for more information about R.F. Hall).

NOTE: There is a change this year to bus cancellations involving Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School:

  • If buses in Dufferin County are cancelled, only those Robert F. Hall buses originating in DufferinCounty are cancelled. Unless buses in STOPR Zone 3 are cancelled, Robert F. Hall buses originating in STOPR Zone 3 will continue to operate. Messaging in such cases will be: “Buses to St. Andrew, St. Peter, St. Benedict as well as Dufferin County buses to Robert F. Hall are cancelled today due to ….â€

  • If buses in STOPR Zone 3 are cancelled but Dufferin County buses are not cancelled, Dufferin County buses to Robert F. Hall will also be cancelled. Messaging in such cases will be: “Buses in STOPR Zone 3 and ALL buses to Robert F. Hall are cancelled today due to …â€

WHAT IF MY SCHOOL IS LOCATED IN A ZONE THAT IS OPEN BUT IS SERVICED BY BUSES THAT ORIGINATE IN, OR TRAVEL THROUGH, ANOTHER ZONE WHERE BUSES ARE CANCELLED?

This scenario would only occur at a few DPCDSB schools. Additional messaging will be sent to families of those schools.

Bus cancellation notices are usually posted by 6:00 a.m. or shortly afterwards in the following ways:
